Many visitors from overseas prefer not to rent a car or drive themselves and, with this in mind, the seed of an idea for ‘Discover Gardens’ was sown, germinated and took root!
Based in the historic county town of Lewes (just 1 hour by train from London), I can arrange either a 2-day tour (overnight hotel/bed and breakfast accommodation in Lewes or surrounding countryside) or a single day of garden visiting (we can meet you from your train out of London). The choice of gardens visited will depend on the season and your specific interests and you may have a particular garden/s in mind or I can recommend a programme for you. Unlike a large tour group, not only do you have your own garden guide but also the benefit of a personal driver (qualified and insured with fully air-conditioned vehicle). We restrict our guest numbers to a maximum of 4 people.
In spring, the senses are assaulted by opulent displays of bulbs and magnolia blossom and, in early summer, the rhododendrons which so love the acid soil of the Sussex Weald. Take a stroll along exquisite summer borders brimming with the heady aroma of scented plants. Experience the vibrant colours of autumn, visiting internationally renowned collections of trees from across the world. Whether it is the exotic ‘trophies’ of the great plant hunters of centuries past, or the influence of more recent English garden designers which capture your imagination we can plan a programme to suit you.
